Goal-shy Lecce fire coach Gotti
Lecce, third from last in Serie A with just two wins and nine points after 12 matches, parted company with coach Luca Gotti on Saturday, the day after their 1-1 home draw with Empoli.
"Lecce announce that they have relieved Luca Gotti of his duties as coach in charge of the first team," said the club from Puglia in southern Italy in a brief statement.
After their home draw on Friday, Lecce are one point ahead of Monza, who play Parma on Saturday, and last-place Venice, who face Lazio on Sunday.
Lecce have scored just five goals in their 12 league games, four fewer than any other team.
Gotti, 57, took charge last March, replacing Roberto D'Aversa, who was sacked for butting a Verona player after a match.
D'Aversa has since joined Empoli, Gotti's last opponents on Friday.
Lecce were 16th when Gotti arrived. The club finished 14th to stay up, are playing a third consecutive season in the top flight.
He is the second Serie A coach to be sacked this season. Roma fired Daniele De Rossi after just four matches.
